Timeline

We are starting this time line in 2010 but I cannot leave out a monumental event that happened in 2008 when Senator Barack Obama of Illinois was elected president after beating Senator John McCain of Arizona. Senator Barack Obama is half Black, which is the biggest reason why we are here today, with Donald Trump as POTUS number 43.

Here is the timeline of events I believe have steered the direction of where we find ourselves today:

November 2, 2010-

The Tea Party popularity was high and they help a lot of republican candidates winning a majority of the elections which made them win lots of seats in The House of Representatives with a 63 seat gain, a reduction of Democrats in the Senate and taking over other governing houses. I believe this is major after Obama passed his stimulus package because from this point on, it was incredibly hard for President Obama to work with anyone to pass needed legislation. It has now come to light that there was a Republican plot to obstruct President Obama. “If he was for it,” former Ohio Senator George Voinovich explained, “we had to be against it.”

November 6, 2012

President Barack Obama beat Republican runner up Mitt Romney taking 332 of the electoral votes versus 206 for Romney. This was an emotional race in my perspective being a Utah native and lots of people here in Utah were upset Romney lost. Maybe the resentment from that loss led most of Utahns to be Trump supporters for the 2016 election. Politics became even more polarized since the practice of being able to work across party lines was just going out the window.

January 1, 2014

The Affordable Care act went in to affect. A monumental event for the expansion of a social welfare. It was not perfect because of the obstacle of trying to accomplish anything across the political lines. It did however allow millions more of Americans to be able to afford health care, and health insurers could not turn you away for having a pre-existing condition. I think this stirred the Republican pot even more in that they felt control slipping if there was a socialist service being provided with lots of regulations on the health insurance monopolies. How is money being made with a socialist service like that!?

Billionaire businessman and reality television celebrity Donald Trump enters the race to win the Republican nomination for President of the United States. This was perceived as comical and impossible when it happened, but little by little Donald Trump beat every candidate. He was a direct, no fuss talker who used all the cliche rhetoric to win popularity: “Make America Great Again,” “Build that Wall!” “Drain the Swamp!” No one suspected he would actually win against Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton, he obviously did.

December 2016

Before leaving office, President Barack Obama expelled thirty five russian diplomats from Washington after a national security report stated that Russia had been behind a hacking scandal to influence the national presidential election. This is huge, it undermines our democracy and it’s all still under investigation, although President Trump swears left and right he had nothing to do with this Russian invasion and has no knowledge of it.

May 2017

Former FBI director, United States Special Counsel Robert Mueller takes over the investigation of the Donald Trump campaign and any Russian involvement in the election. His team has either indicted or have received guilty pleas from 19 people and three companies so far. Four of them former Trump advisers. This is investigation is where we are today. It is the biggest scandal in my opinion that any president has ever been involved in. If the Trump presidency did work with Russian officials to get Donald Trump elected, it is the biggest offense to our democracy yet.
